A Study on Social Support of Anxiety of Nursing Students

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the social support and the anxiety. The subjects were 212 students of Kaejong Junior College of Nursing. The data was collected from Nov. 19 to Nov. 23, 1990 by means of questionnaire and was analyzed by the statistical methods.
The results obtained from this study were summarized as follows:
1. The first hypothesis, "The higher the degree of directly perceived social support, the lower the level of trait anxiety" was supported (r = - 0.7320, p = 0.000).
2. The second hypothesis, "The higher the degree of directly perceived social support, the lower the level of state anxiety" was supported (r = -0.7228, p = 0.000).
3. The third hypothesis, "The higher the degree of indirectly perceived social support, the lower the level of trait anxiety" was supported (r = -0.1759, p = 0.005).
4. The fourth hypothesis, "the higher the degree of indirectly percieved social support, the lower the level of state anxiety" was supported (r = -0.2189, p = 0.001).
5. The fifth hypothesis, "The higher trait anxiety, the higher state anxiety" was supported (r = 0.8255, p = 0.000).
6. Relationships between general characteristics and various variables (directly perceived social support, indirectly perceived social support, trait ansity, state anxiety) were as follows:
a) The significant determinants of the various variables were religion and satisfaction about interpersonal relationship.
b) There is significant differences among religions in directly perceived social support, trait anxiety and state anxiety.
c) There is significant differences among satisfaction about interpersonal relationship in directly perceived social support, trait anxiety and state anxiety.
